  • Personality

    Profession: Nightclub Bouncer

  • Personality: Tad has settled pretty solidly into the notion that people suck, and thus hasn't done much to endear himself to them any more than he's ever really let himself depend on them. Which more than half accounts for the failure of his first two marriages.

When he really cares about or gets invested in something, he tends to come off as aloof, disinterested, uncaring, mean...and frankly, that's because a lot of the time he tries to be. Doing otherwise has higher odds of resulting in disappointment, pain... unpleasantness for him.

In his own way, he's protective...but he doesn't coddle people, feeling they should be able to develop the tools to protect themselves. In this regard, he can be hardest on those he cares most about...which is an extremely small circle that his twin brother has been in the longest.

  • History

As a child, one half of a set of twins, Tad always had a knack for figuring out how to fit in with his peers. How to be perceived as cool, how to make friends. His brother was the opposite.  Knowing defending his painfully shy twin would only make bigger targets of the both of them, Tad often took the lead in tormenting his brother, knowing Joey'd have it worse if he didn't. He hoped Joey would toughen up, be less soft, stop taking his shit...but he didn't. So he'd dole it out as his friends egged him on, when he'd get frustrated by all the praise Joey would get for being the 'good' one...etc. Whether Joey would've eventually grown a spine, Tad would never know as they were eventually parted and sent down separate paths.

Their father was an M.A.P.D. officer who enforced the policy of a government that not everyone agreed with. One such person broke into the Kip home one fateful night with the intention of slaughtering the whole family. He partially succeeded, for both Hudsen and Maia perished that night, but the twins, though injured, survived, slipping out of the house while the killer was occupied with their parents. Unfortunately, the killer escaped as well and, seemingly having cut out or otherwise disabled his tracker, was in the wind.

For the boys' protection, they were split up in the foster care system. Joey, always so sweet, docile, meek, was adopted into a nice, coddling family, while Tad couldn't seem to find his footing, bouncing from foster home to foster home with a reputation for surliness, being difficult, abrasive, and disrespectful. Even with his saintly twin not around for direct comparison, he was the bad one.

He mellowed out somewhat once he aged out of the system and, for the most part, only had to answer to himself. There was less of a need for outward aggression when he no longer felt like a caged animal. At least not until he managed to knock up a clubgoer who'd routinely bat her eyes at him to get in early. She wasn't really his type, but she'd caught him at a weak moment and he'd taken her in the storage room on a break and less than a week later he was responding to the notification of her pregnancy with a demand for a DNA test.

So yeah, that marriage got off on the right foot.

He didn't trust her as far as he could throw her, but the kid was his and he was going to have to marry anyway so he resigned himself to the marriage. As I said, though, Tania wasn't really his type, physically or personality-wise. Not long-term. Oddly, he liked her best at a point when she liked herself least - when her pregnancy was showing and she wasn't so damn thin. She was also less flirty then, as she felt less sexy. He stopped expressing his interest once it was clear it was unappreciated Once she lost the baby weight, though, he'd swear she was batting her eyelashes at everything on two legs. For the most part, her behavior only provided a mild annoyance to her husband, who was more interested in spending his free time in a boxing ring than with her.

It didn't come as a surprise to him when she informed him she was leaving him for someone who not only wanted her, but had filled her quota and only needed someone to help finish raising her own kids, which suited the woman just fine as she didn't care much for being pregnant.

Far from broken up about it, Tad enjoyed his little taste of freedom before being shipped up the river to M.A.N.C. camp, where he grudgingly took part in mandatory meetings while waiting for his time to be up. He caught the attention of a woman, Starr, who seemed to think that, with a little kindness, a little tenderness, she could fix him and be his happy ending, thus, she requested they be paired together. She was big on talking, where he was not. Asked too many invasive questions, tried once (and only once) to bridge the gap between himself and his brother by springing a surprise encounter on him... She was none too subtle in her attempts to progress with her little project (him), which he learned to see coming a mile away and would sidestep unless he was in the mood to pick a fight.

Eventually, her attempts grew further and farther in between. He learned later, during the divorce process, that she'd found someone more appreciative of her. During that time she asked him why he could never let her in just a little, a question he didn't have an answer to, which, oddly, left them both a bit dissatisfied.

Tad was markedly less devil-may-care this time around, especially with Beck old enough to be dropping not-so-subtle hints about how all his friends have at least two siblings by now. Fact is, the man's getting older and way behind on filling his quota, and his nine-going-on-ten-year-old son was giving him relationship advice on their way to drop him off to spend a little 'quality' time with his mother while his father was away.

Being single is against the law, unless parent to at least four children. The government enforces the law by assigning spouses, should someone be single for more than a few weeks. It controls everything: from the house they live in, the household income...

Failure to comply leads to exile outside the walls, where the plague still fester and where resources are scarce.
