- Personality
Profession: College professor in literature and languages. - Personality: Dorian is a very kind, soft-spoken individual. Even though he is highly intelligent, he does not have the habit of flaunting it or using it to fuel a sense of self-importance. He is non-judgmental: people can be who and whatever they want to be, their decisions are none of his business unless it concerns a woman he may have an interest in and only as far as whether or not she could be a potential partner.
It is rather ironic how he can discuss with colleagues or address a class filled to the brim without so much as a stutter, but outside of a professional setting, his social skills fail him completely. When he can keep people behind a professional, invisible barrier, all is fine. When that barrier becomes non-existent, he turns into a wallflower. He stutters, babbles, everything in his manners scream of his lack of self-confidence. It's even worse if the other person is a woman that he finds beautiful, without regard to her marital status. It's a plague for the romantic man in his early 30's who dreams of settling down and having children.
He is extremely patient with students who require more of his time, as long as he is convinced that the effort is worth it and that the student is not wasting his time. He takes a long time before losing his cool, but his anger is cold. If he raises his voice, it's because he's beyond angry. He just piles it on and on, and sadly might explode at the wrong moment with someone who definitely doesn't deserve the full outburst.Quick to apologize and take the blame, Dorian has learned to let go of guilt and move on after an event threatened to pull him under. - Family

Dorian is the third born of a barely functional couple. There was a long time where Dorian was oblivious to the difficulties his parents were going through, between a mother who did not believe in the system nor did she appreciate being forced to four pregnancies that forced her to bed rest, and a father who had become a M.A.P.D. officer as soon as it became an option. Dorian was his father's boy, looking up at him like he was a hero. It took him a while before he understood what was going on, but when he did, he began to question.
His father quickly set the record straight. Questioning the government was not something he should do. The government would give him a home and money, healthcare and education, all he needed to live a good life. In exchange, he had to raise four children and this was the best part. He was a good father, and Dorian was set on the right path for life. It was this discussion that set in him the sense of duty that he carried to this day. It was also his father's example of how he treated his wife that Dorian intended to mimic. Respectful, kind, but still firm if his wife strayed from the right path, as his father would have put it.
His teenage years saw him as an awkward, gangly youth, not very popular in school. His intelligence, slightly above normal, had him nearly perfect grades in everything but sports. He was picked last, and in one rather embarrassing class, the two team captain even argued not to get him in their team. He would have been quite happy just going at the library instead. His older sister took after their mother, absorbing all that dislike about men, blaming them for everything. In one particularly vehement argument, Dorian reminded her that the marriage law had been a woman's idea, that the number of birth required were a woman's idea. It was not men forcing women to give birth, with was women in position of power. That argument did not sit well with Sofia's view of the world and from then on, she did everything that she could to make his life miserable. And it worked. He loved his sister, and it took him years to understand that she was the one who had taken his confidence and worn it down to bits and pieces.
His father was only somewhat disappointed that his favorite son would not follow in his footsteps. Although he was no longer so gangly, it was clear that Dorian's skills were in something else than law enforcement. Being a professor in college was a noble profession. In one last detestable prank before he left for college, Sofia convinced one of her friend to give her brother his first kiss. She knew that Dorian liked that friend; he couldn't look away while she was around. He took it for more than it was, and was genuinely hurt to hear that he had been set up by his own sister.
After that, trusting women became difficult, and trusting his own judgment about them was even worse. He did meet a girl in college when they were both of age, and after a few months of working together through different assignments, they decided to get married. They had a first child, and then a second child, and it was a good home. Dorian was genuinely happy, even if his relationship with his wife was not romantic. There was an attachment there, and they were close, but they were more partners and best friends than anything.
A car accident shattered this. Dorian was at the wheel, the kids were in the back and his wife was discussing the possible family vacations that they could have next summer. She wanted to go north and visit the canadian territories. He wasn't too fond of the idea, but the discussion was soft and civil, there were even a few laughs. Another car ran a red light and rammed into the passenger's door. Melissa died on impact and so did the child that she was carrying.
Dorian was devastated, and blamed himself for a long time. He had a toddler and a pre-school child to take care of. Not only that, but he knew that on top of his grief at the loss of his best friend, managing the grief of his children, he had six weeks to find himself another wife. He failed, and his children were given to his parents for the six weeks stay at the MANC camp. There, he failed to catch the eye of a woman, or rather he did manage to catch the eye, but they lost interest when he started getting awkward and putting his foot in his mouth, or speak french randomly, and what not.
He was assigned his second wife, moved to Philadelphia with her and his two kids. It was atrocious; it was like he had been paired up with Sofia. The woman was bitter and mean, she resented that he felt intimidated by her domineering demeanor, and let him know at every occasion. She called him spineless and a coward, she attacked his performance in bed - something Melissa had never complained about - and eventually found someone else. He was never so glad to risk being taken to a MANC camp than the morning he received the official divorce papers. Since he was the one with children and entitled to the larger habitation, she moved out.
Now, no longer grieving, and his children (5 years old and 9 years old) able to understand that he was looking for a new mom for them, Dorian set out to juggle taking care of his kids, of his class of students and finding himself a new wife. The timing was atrocious in that way. The end of the term left him with a large pile of papers to grade as well as last minute prep. The eldest of his kids got into trouble in school, and drama at home ensued. By the time he got his head out of the water, his six weeks were up. A nanny came with the M.A.P.D. and Dorian hoped to god that this time he would find someone, and not be assigned someone. - Intimacy
